Renewal Information

Important: You cannot renew online if your renewal notice contains messages about insurance, customer stops, or registration stops. Check for stops or holds before proceeding.

For your convenience, we have partnered with the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) and the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) to allow you to clear toll violations when renewing your registration online.

Online payment methods:

  • Credit/debit card – subject to a convenience fee
  • eCheck – no convenience fee

The Hillsborough County Tax Collector does not receive any part of the convenience fee.

Need it instantly?

Visit one of our self-service kiosks conveniently located in area Publix grocery stores and select Tax Collector locations for instant registration renewal!

Need it today or tomorrow?

Renew online before 3:30 pm and pick it up same day Monday through Friday! Just select the location where you would like to pick it up. Renewals paid after 3:30 pm can be picked up the next business day.

Need it 2-5 business days?

Renew online and select “have it mailed to you.”

Need it 5-7 business days?

Mail it in! Detach and return the renewal slip(s) with check made payable to Nancy C. Millan, Tax Collector. View our mailing address.

License Plate Renewal Information

Most license plates expire at midnight of the registered owner’s birthday. You may renew your registration up to 90 days prior to the expiration date. To renew, the following items are required: Your renewal notice, registration or license plate number, and proof of insurance.

A penalty will be charged if you fail to renew before the 11th day of the month following your renewal month.

FL Two Year Registration Renewal
You may elect to purchase a 12 or 24-month registration for your vehicles during the renewal period.  The biennial registration is valid for 24 months and fees are calculated accordingly.  Any unused time on registration is non-refundable.
Exemptions to the Biennial registration are as follows:

  • Trucks weighing 8,000 lbs. or more.
  • Registrations with a restricted license plate
  • Dealer registrations
  • Transporters
  • Registrations issued to government vehicles
  • Registrations issued to out of state military
  • Semi-trailer registrations
  • National Guard Exemption registrations
